What are the approximate stats needed for admittance into the honors college?
I was accepted to the Arts&Science honors program in the early action cycle. I’m an OOS student studying in India.
I have a 32 ACT.
The Engineering Honors program is a living group that takes equal number of boys and girls. So its not entirely based on stats. There are essays to fill out, and the earlier the better for admissions. They keep a wait list. There is not enough room in the Honors Engineering dorm for everyone who applies, but Global Engineering is a very similar living group, with high stats students too, so its almost the same, although has more of a global focus since the faculty in charge is a Spanish teacher. Students who can write in French, Spanish or Russian are welcome but in practice, students are speaking English there. Engineering Honors is not a different Curriculum from the regular Engineering programs, although there are some freshman classes taken at the living group together with other honors students. Those classes are not engineering oriented, however, but humanities requirements.
Arts and Sciences Honors, has been about 340 students living in Smith Hall together most recently.
The choice to be part of an Honors dorm at U of Colorado is not a big deal, and does not change much if ANYTHING in your academic program. Some honors students write a thesis, but not all do that. Honors being focused on a living arrangement is the same at most state universities, its just a living group. Now, living with motivated students can make a difference to your study habits, but you can find other living groups that are serious students besides honors. Look at any RAP at CU Boulder, they are all similar in that the students are highly motivated and there is a faculty family living with the students.
Thanks for the info. I don’t know too much about Boulder. It seems to have a lot of what my D is looking for in terms of big school atmosphere-sports, Greek life, etc. But she likes discussion based classes and being around serious students. We are touring the school in a couple of weeks. Oh, and she’s a humanities kid.
I’m homeschooled with a 30 ACT (31 superscored), and I was invited to the A&S Honors program.
@Marcie123 American History is a strong major at CU Boulder. One of the CU history faculty won the 2015 History Pultzer prize for her book on native American history. I think its not up to west coast public school standards for humanities but improving all the time with great young faculty being hired. Music is very well ranked at CU Boulder and requires an audition. Dance, theater and fine arts have a good local reputation as well. Overall CU Boulder is most famous for its physics department because of JILA, a very elite physics laboratory collaboration with the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
