I am going to leave this to students to answer, but I think my freshman Honors Dorm son would be very offended to see your stereotypical description of all honors students.

@nikkia,

I knew people in honors housing, and they were all ‘normal’, for a lack of better words. Pitt is a really relaxing environment, and yeah, there are some stiff people, but that’s true about regular students too. The students are really no different, so don’t be so quick to assume.

Good luck

I forgot – I turned down living in honors housing last year because I wanted to be in Sutherland, and it was never quiet (music blasting from a floor down, people running in halls, etc). I enjoyed it, but keep in mind, you may have to go through some of those things next year (more so if you don’t live in honors housing)

Now that honors is moved to Sutherland, I’ve heard that the engineering SPACE floors will be in Forbes. Which would you recommend staying in?

It sounds like kids don’t tend to stay in the same dorm year after year. What do they do with all of their stuff over the summer? Is there storage in the dorms or on the campus, or are there commercial storage companies, or is it all hauled home each summer, whereever that may be? We are not too close so couldn’t make make mutiple trips to transport belongings when moving in and out.

^My family is planning on getting a small storage unit, either locker or closet sized, to put stuff that I can’t bring home.

Nikkia - I live in the honors dorm and while I don’t usually go out, there is DEFINITELY a group on every floor that goes out together every weekend. One of my favorite things about the honors dorm is that you can go out as much as you want, but still come back to a (semi) quiet place to get work done. No matter where you end up living, you’ll find that there is a huge diversity of personalities at Pitt. The only difference is that in the honors dorm even the partiers are focused on working first, THEN having fun.
