Honors: Integrated Life Sciences pre-reqs?

Anyone know anything about this? When my D went to sign up for ILS, she found on the form that ILS students must have received a 5 on the AP Bio test.

Yes, it is.
Your D must have 5 on AP Bio score because she will take sophomore BIO on Freshman year. So if she sign up for ILS, she will not make it.
Sorry, I am at the same boat :-((

Thank you, Rookie. In the interim, D spoke to a friend in the ILS who is a junior prepping for the MCATs. He said the ILS students are some of the best in the uni; they are largely pre-med and very competitive. Saturday night is study night in LaPlata and usually is quiet. D is uninterested in pre-med, so the AP Bio req will not be a problem.

D is a freshman in ILS this year. There were a few freshmen this year who didn’t know their AP Bio scores (hadn’t taken test yet) but chose ILS as first choice in the Honors College, then they only got 4’s on AP Bio. They were still admitted to the ILS program, but started with 2nd semester freshman bio instead of the sophomore level class.

So to some extent it depends on who and how many want to be in ILS, and I’m sure they take the kids best prepared according to their specs. But there might be some wiggle room, so if you really wanted in this program and have the science interest, it is a terrific program and it might be worthwhile to indicate your interest.

Apparently the feel of each of the classes is a little different. The freshman class seems very group oriented, collaborative and friendly. The group is split about 60/40 pre-med/research interests. A lot of studying goes on in the lounge on D’s floor and she is extremely happy as she’s not into the party scene.

So now I understand the reason for the AP Bio test score. They move the kids up a year in their bio studies. Didn’t see that in the literature. Makes sense. No problem. D will be happy to take the Bio 1 and 2.
