I’m interested in double majoring and I’m thinking of maybe pursuing an honors English major instead of a regular one. I looked at a couple of CSU websites and looked over the course requirements for both honors and regular. The honors option has 5 seminars and the regular option only has 1 seminar. In place of the seminars for the regular option, more British literature courses are required. To be honest, some of the courses required for the regular major that you wouldn’t take with the honors major seem really interesting to me, so I’m tempted to do a regular major instead. Are there huge benefits of going the honors route? Anyone have any insight?
I was in the honors program in my undergrad. In my experience, I can’t say that it has helped me much career-wise. Honors programs can help you if you’re interested in graduate school, but that’s mostly because of the experiences they offer you (small, seminar-style classes; research requirements or opportunities; close relationships with professors) rather than the name ‘honors’ on your transcript.
You could always take the classes you’re interested in as electives!
