Honors or higher ranked college?

This is a very materialistic question, so please know that there are many other factors going into this choice!

I have to choose between my safeties in the next couple of weeks so that I don't keep them waiting until the last possible day (I want someone else to get the chance to be accepted). Soooo

which of these would be looked more highly upon by employers, etc for job placement/grad school:

Iowa State + Honors
University of Wisconsin-Madison (no real honors program but it is considered a better school)

Any other things I should be considering because of this?

I don't think that it matters much. What's the financial difference?

almost identical due to scholarships, etc

in the end i understand that rankings matter little, but you don't think in the 40s vs. 80s will matter much? it seems like really all anyone would pay attention to is if it was in the top 20s, etc...

i would go to wisconsin

i would go to iowa state

Go to Wisconsin. Its nationwide name recognition will allow you to get a job anywhere as opposed to mostly in Iowa if you were to choose ISU. Also, anecdotal evidence from friends has painted a picture for me of a combination of great academics and a great social scene at UW-Madison.

I second Wisconsin due to recognition of the school

thanks for the advice everyone!

wisc bro fo sho.

Most employers would care less where you went...

And the idea that if you go to Iowa State, you'll only get jobs in Iowa is horribly flawed.

Speaking of horribly flawed....

^ So true.

In the end though, I'd choose Wisconsin, simply because theres a considerable difference between the two. It depends what program as well.

If you're going for engineering, forget that piece of crap Iowa State and go to Wisconsin without a second thought.

UW-Madison, without a doubt.

is they cost the same to you, def wisconsin

Yeah, I'd say to say University of Wisconsin- Madison. Iowa State may be offering you honors but there's no guarantee that their honors is even on level with UW. Unless, IS gives you merit aid, I don't see a reason to go to them over UW.

I'm just going to add to the chorus, Wisconsin-Madison hand down. It has a reputation that even a native New Englander like myself can respect. When I think of Iowa, corns...lot of corns.

Thank you for the advice everyone-it has been interesting hearing the different perceptions of the two schools.

Strangely enough, I got an invitation to the Madison honors college today... I think hands down then I know the choice :)
