Honors Program/Housing Question

I've got a pair of questions for you...
1. What is the benefit of being in the Honors' Program? I've heard you get priority for classes but are you put in all the hard classes because you are an honor's student?
2. For my first year I plan on staying in a dorm. Which is the best combination of a social scence as well as a decent place to get work done?

well first, you aren't "put" in any classes - this is college, and you decide what classes you take.

second, as a first year, you have no say whatsoever as to which building you get. But hopefully you placed the residence halls at the top of your ranking on the housing app. They are without question the best place for freshmen.

Honors offers you the chance to study with great faculty, explore academic venues you'd otherwise overlook, and learn how to enroll in classes before your friends.

Icarus already said it.

Are you required to do anymore than a regular student if you are in the Honors Program? Or can you just use it to get in all the classes you want?

It wouldn't be much of an "honors" program if you didn't have to go the extra mile, now would it?

Yes, you have to complete a set number of honors units, which can be obtained through a variety of means, the most common of which are: honors seminars, honors collegium (a certain number of your honors units must be from these), and honors contracts.

However, some of my best academic experiences were in my honors courses, and I recommend them with complete confidence.

Basically I want to know if being in the Honors Program is harder than just being a regular student...

Well yeah, that's the point.

I'm also having problems deciding if I should apply for the honors program. I'm hoping to get into the Bizecon major and for that I need to keep my GPA up. I'm afraid that if the honors program is too hard, it'll pull my GPA down and decrease my chance of getting into Bizecon. What do you think?

Also, what is difference between the honors program and the departmental honors program? If you are in the honors program and you get admitted to that major, does that mean you are also in the departmental honors program?
