@Schadret Wow! My D was accepted into biomedical engineering but she would love a molecular biology major.
@MACmiracle Here’s some info on it: https://academics.rowan.edu/csm/departments/mcb/academicprograms/BS_MCB.html
@Schadret My D’s primary interest is neuroscience, and specifically molecular biology within neuroscience rather than psychology. She had a summer experience in a molecular bio lab and loved it.
There is only one college left among her acceptances that offers neuroscience that might be affordable. We’re still waiting on a competitive scholarship.
To study neuroscience in TCNJ, she has to be in the psych department, which she has mixed feelings about.
So if Rowan has a new degree in molecular and cellular bio, she might be interested, because it is so much less expensive than anything else.
Maybe we can see how she feels after the engineering accepted students day. Who knows? Maybe meeting other biomedical engineering students will help clarify things for her.
She is more interested in research than a medical career so I think biomedical engineering might offer more job prospects. ??
@annamom
His major is psychology, with a minor in Bio and a concentration in Neuroscience. He leans more towards the science side of psychology, and his research opportunities reflect that. This summer he will be taking part in a summer program at an Ivy League school, doing lab research in the neuroscience area, with a stipend. He is looking at grad schools with a PhD program in this area as well.
@MACmiracle - HMU and I will happily share my list of summer opportunities that your daughter might want to apply for once she has finished her freshman year. Applications require essays, recommendations and steady effort to complete, but the opportunities abound.
Internships were very competitive, and I would not say easy to get. I also feel as though companies (quite frankly) take advantage of young students and expect to use up their labor for no pay, not even minimum wage. I think that is wrong.
Best of luck to all of you!
My son applied just before deadline, haven’t heard anything. One of his classmates applied at the same time and was already accepted. Has anyone else heard?
we haven’t heard from Rowan as well. @toast18 How did they notify your son’s classmate?
My D applied on the deadline and she has not heard either. It was a struggle for her to get the honors application done, honestly, so I don’t know what to expect. All I can say is getting a concussion that knocks you low for two months of your senior year and over-committing on ECs once you recover is not the best way to get honors or scholarship applications done.
@NJRoadie Thanks for sharing your S’s experience. I didn’t remember he had the same interest in neuroscience.
Last night D told me she heard back regarding a competitive scholarship application she made at a small LAC. It would have brought the price down to TCNJ level, not comparable to Rowan’s net price but still tempting because it’s small, in a rural area, and offers the exact major she wants. This kind of takes it out of the running and I’m a little sad about it. Hearing all the positive stories about Rowan is helping a lot. Thank you.
I just want something to click for her when we visit next week.
@annamom She was notified by email
Saw in another post that emails are supposed to come Friday! Good luck to everyone!
Rowan was off today and it looks like they may be closed tomorrow, too, because of the snow. Let hope the notifications can get sent out by Friday.
I just got an email saying I was admitted to Honors! I applied back in January.
D was admitted to the new Honor College. The accepted students reception (I assume for Honors) will be on 04/07.
Great news, @Tigr0705 !
@annamom That’s amazing! I’m very happy for your D.
No email here. Wonder if that means he didn’t get in?
I called this morning inquiring about the status of my daughter’s application, they told me she should expect an email today or tomorrow. We received the email later today.
I assume there is a chance for tomorrow.
Thanks @annamom and congrats to your daughter and everyone else that got in!
My son receive his honors acceptance this morning by email. We are really happy for him! Best wishes to everyone else too!
Congrats everyone that got in! We met with some of the people that run the program on our last visit and I was very impressed.
D got in! I was hoping for this and now I’m so relieved!
