Honors Program

I read about honors programs at michigan...what do they entail?

i haven't started it yet but from what i've read and heard at orientation, it's a program for the top 10% of students. you have to take half your classes in "honors" and there's a required freshman class called Great Books(or Classic Civ) which are both basically about ancient greek authors and their works. there's also honors housing in south quad(which is one of the nicest dorms on campus).
there are different activites you do and you have special honors advisors for your classes. you can get this thing called the sophomore honors award if you keep up a 3.6(or maybe 3.4).
i think it's basically a program for smart, motivated students.

Many say that the honors version of classes aren't so much harder than regular. Since Michigan's student body is already great, some decide it's pointless to do honors. But if you want to see what that challenge is all about, check it out. I decided to take the honors. You have to keep up a 3.4 and take 2 honors classes per semester if you want that award.

Thanks so much, is there any merit scholarship awarded with being in the program?

Not necessarily. I didn't get merit aid. But they say it's top 10% of the entering class, meaning about 500-600 of the "best" people. I'm not too sure about how true that is.

And wouldn't it be the top 10% of LSA kids? People that go into engineering can't do it.

o please, "best" people, pff lol
