honors classes

Can you take honors classes if you're not in the honors program? If so, how would you get this approval?

thnkx

Yes, and I think you just have to get it from your academic advisor. They probably sign a little sheet or something but I think you gotta prove you can handle it. Not sure how you go about that though.

can someone tell me more about the honors housing? i am accepted into the honors program on merit based on math and science. does this mean that i will be required to do other honors requirments outside of math and science as well. (as you can see in my post, i have very poor grammar)

Is there a summer reading list for either of the Great Books courses? Or is it just a course outline of what will be read in class? If so, what is on the list?

You are asked to read

Strunk, William, and E.B. White: The Elements of Style

over the summer. Reading list for the fall:

Homer, Iliad
Homer, Odyssey
Herodotus, The Histories
Aeschylus, Oresteia
Thucydides, The Peloponnesian War
Sophocles I, Three Tragedies
Euripides, Euripides I
Euripides, The Bacchae & Other Plays
Aristophanes, Lysistrata/The Acharnians/Clouds
Plato, The Last Days of Socrates

(This is for GB. W Civ is similar but I can list them also if you would like.)

wow. i totally didn't know we had to read anything other than the book that they're going to send us later this summer. on a side note--for honors do we need both gb 191 and 192 or is one semester enough?

" i totally didn't know we had to read anything other than the book that they're going to send us later this summer."

Wait, what book are they sending us? The list I posted is what we're reading during the fall.

everyone in honors got a letter saying that later this summer we'll be receiving a book written by a prof at mich (go figure), and we'll have discussions on it when we go to the honors kickoff this fall. the only time i heard about it was during orientation, and i don't think i ever read the letter, so i'm not clear on it, but i remember a peer adviser saying that very few ppl actually read those books anyways.
