Honors Scheduling

So if you are in honors you get to register for classes right after the athletes, right? (or am I confusing this with another honors college hahahaha)

I’ll get straight to the point. I am not a morning person. I would love to avoid those nasty 7 AM classes. Ideally I won’t have a class before 9 AM…is this possible haha?

I know some GECs are probably going to be a pain but I’m going to be business major and I noticed that the b-school had class today (like 3-4 of the undergrad b-schools I applied did not have classes on Friday…awesome haha) but that is no big deal.

So how hard is it to avoid the early early classes? Is there a 7 AM calc class everyone has to take if they didn’t take BC calc in H.S.?

thanks!

My son is honors and has always been able to get the classes he wants. He’s not a morning person either and as far as I know, he’s never had a class before 9:30 in the morning. He has been there for 2 years so far.

Calculus is one of the most popular freshman classes so it’s offered at several different times during the day. Since you schedule before non-honors students (majority of undergrads) the only classes you’ll ever have trouble getting into are honors classes but there are so many GEC options that it shouldn’t be a huge problem.

is it possible to not have classes before 10-11?

It’s entirely possible. My Monday’s and Wednesday’s start at 12:30, Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 11:00, and my Fridays at 1:30. Every day ends at 4:18. This was only possible based on dilligent abd obsessive planning by me though. Not people settle for less than best possible schedules because they don’t realize they can do better. If you’re not a morning person it will be much better than high school, but I’d at least expect a few 9 or 930 classes at some point.

You mentioned not having class on Fridays. This is entirely possible, but I avoid it. Many of my friends stuff 20+ credit hours into four days a week, just to have no Friday class. This is a bad idea I think. I am much more content even spacing a few hours each day for class. This makes every class day entirely bearable and mire or less relaxed.

Ok what if you’re not Honors or Scholars, will you most likely be screwed and have to take a lot of early (before 9:30) classes?

No. Everybody puts so much emphasis on being “honors”. I’m not honors or scholars and choose not to be although I could be with my gpa. I dont need an honors diploma for my career of choice. You can be a “regular” student and be fine if you plan correctly.

Honors status does make scheduling ridiculously easy (I use Schedulizer.com), but as long as you’re a little flexible (class choices) you’ll be fine scheduling without it.

I second schedulizer.com. Great website.

I’m a second year honors student in the Fisher College of Business, and also not an early morning person. I’ve never had trouble scheduling classes later in the morning, with the exception of a rare class or two that is only offered at one time (these weren’t required classes). From talking with non-honors friends and classmates, it doesn’t seem like non-honors students have many scheduling complaints either.

My classes M-Th this quarter either begin at 9:30 or 11:30, and everyday ends at 1:18. I have a Friday class, but it is a unique and interesting class I didn’t need to take.

In general, I don’t take early classes unless they are awesome, and being flexible and having a backup plan is also a good idea. It is nice to be able to substitute in a GEC or elective whenever there isn’t a required business class that fits into my ideal schedule.
