I've been researching Pitt, and the more I look at it, the more I like it. I'm going up to campus later this month, but I was wondering if anyone could clear up a minor question for me.

Do honors college students get any kind of priority registration for classes? And, if not, do people often have trouble getting the courses they need? The issue isn't too pressing for me since my AP credits give me some measure of flexibility (this is definitely not a dealbreaker or anything), but I'm just curious. Thanks very much!

As far as I know, honors kids do not get priority registration. This has been a complaint. However, my daughter (a freshman) just registered for her spring classes, and she didn't have a problem getting any of the sections she wanted. She had a scheduling conflict with one class, so she'll take that next semester (she has one "passionate, must take" subject, so whatever conflicts with that is gone). My daughter is taking mostly freshmen survey classes like anthro and art history and none of the "hard" sciences yet. So I don't know if that makes a difference. Maybe some current students can relate their experiences.

The way it works now, you choose your classes (including professor and time) and a few alternates online. Then you meet with your advisor, who enters the actual codes into his/her machine. I don't know how this compares with the procedure at other colleges, but it worked fine for my daughter. No complaints.

Honors students receive no special priority with scheduling unless you have an honors advisor (I think just those students with a chancellors scholarship) since those advisors have less students and you can have a meeting to register sooner. its first come first serve with the classes so for the labs I know the spots fill up very quickly and the waiting list for the ochem labs last year was 100 plus students long although many get in on the waiting list.
