Mental illness is definitely at play here…Maybe a manic episode?

I love you, Curm!! That’s the CC spirit!!

But on the part of the student or her mother?

Oh, please do…would be interesting to know more Rachel and her family.

Well if the illness is on the daughter’s side mania sounds likely to me, although it sounds oddly premeditated for that to be the case. if on the mother’s side, she would have to be severely ill (schizophrenic, perhaps?) and I wonder if her story would come across as believable at all?? Hmm, don’t listen to anything I just said - I am not a psychiatrist

Wasn’t there a thread a few weeks back by some kid trying to figure out how to get his parents to buy him a $50K car? Fortunately the young lady in this story didn’t respond with suggestions.

Whatever school this girl ends up going to, if any, I sure wouldn’t want to be a roommate.

I’m wondering…how did this girl manage to steal a gun from a law enforcement officer’s home? Friend’s dad? He had it lying around the house?

Bovertine, that is exactly what I thought!

Sequoia–Oh gosh. I know a couple of people in law enforcement. It’s shocking how they treat their personal weapons. Just insane.

I wonder about the story.

It said in the article the gun was stolen in July 2010 so who knows if she is guilty of stealing the firearm or bought it off the street for a few hundred dollars.

Let’s hope the “several Ivy League” schools she is supposedly accepted to quickly rescind their offers.

She would have been a dangerous roommate with her possession of drugs, a stolen weapon, and sense of (sports car) entitlement.

Watch for the new best seller–“Battle Hymn of the Tiger Daughter”.

Or watch for the lawsuits–armed student will sue Ivies for rescinding; or armed student sues mother for spoiling her Ivy offers AND not buying the sports car.

Clip from local Florida newscast - includes a picture of darling Rachel. She looks pretty mild-mannered - it’s hard to imagine her attacking her mother. car salesman says Rachel was “very determined”. So, I think curmudgeon spun that part right.

[Fla. student forces mom to co-sign for loan at gunpoint | abc7.com](http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?section=news/bizarre&id=8041703)

lmao! :D

She may be an honors student, but obviously has a few things to learn about how real life works.

Two questions.

Does her mom even need to press charges for her to be arrested and tried on criminal charges considering the gravity of her alleged offenses?

Does the fact she allegedly coerced her mother into signing the loan contract automatically make that contract invalid?

Just saw this story covered on Nancy Grace. Rachel is in juvenile detention for 21 days - no idea what happens after that.

The mom didn’t know that the gun was stolen when she notified the authorities. Once the police had that established, the charges were out of the mom’s hands.

Contract is voided because it was coerced. The car was stolen. Rachel will go down hard. It doesn’t matter whether the mom presses charges or not.

I hope none of you are on the jury if I’m ever accused of a crime.
