On Thursday, March 24, 17-year-old Rachel Hachero called her mother from a car dealership and asked her to co-sign a loan for a vehicle. When Rachel's mother Linda Hachero refused, Rachel threatened to kill her, reports said.
Around 7 p.m. Rachel arrived to their Mossy Glen Drive home and confronted her mother with a 9 mm. She struck her mom in the head with the gun, reports said.
Then, Rachel pointed the gun at Linda's head and told her they were going to the car dealership and demanded her mother co-sign for the car, reports said.
Rachel and her mother went to Sutherlin Nissan, where her mother signed for the car. Rachel left in the 2004 black Nissan 350Z, reports said.
After contacting deputies and reporting the incident the following day, Linda told deputies she didn't want to prosecute her daughter because she is an honors student who has been accepted to several Ivy League colleges on scholarships, reports said.

WOW! What is the point of telling authorities but telling them NOT to prosecute? Maybe so they will know where to start their investigation if mom ends up dead in the near future? It’s really troubling reading about these types of cases. Does she think the D will IMPROVE with age? Whom does mom think she’s helping if she doesn’t prosecute so that the D can get some treatment before she pulls the trigger or hits a little harder next time she wants something and is denied or in any way thwarted. Very chilling–mom needs serious counseling and the D needs a LOT of treatment.

I’m glad this criminal was arrested, despite mom having signed a waiver–this young person is quite dangerous, especially if this is how she treats people who should be nearest and dearest!

Wow, the gun was STOLEN from a law enforcement officer! Lovely child–she doesn’t look like she’s going to any colleges she had on her list.

One or both of them is definitely crazy… Ivy decisions aren’t out, and now that her name has been published, I doubt that she’ll get in anywhere…

I also agree that something in this story does not smell right. I hope this is not a case of buyer’s remorse and the mother just threw the daughter under the bus. Awful thought, I know…

Did some Googling…Rachel Hachero got “scholarships” to Ivy League colleges (need-based only), despite her parents owning a 4192 sq ft luxury home (check here to see photos – [Fort Myers, FL Home for Sale :: 6710 Mossy Glen Dr 33908 :: RE/MAX Realty Team](http://www.swflhomestoday.com/homes/11578695/FL/Fort-Myers/6710-Mossy-Glen-Dr-33908/)?) ? Parents Nestor (age 56) and Linda (age 46) are trying to sell it with a short sale, so perhaps they are having financial difficulties? Maybe they decided that the move from NoVA back in 2004 wasn’t such a great idea, after all? Rachel is a runner, and she apparently shares that sport with her mother. Rachel has done very well in Model UN. She attends the ritzy Canterbury School. Guess the Ivies liked her Hispanic surname. Incredible that she apparently got likely letters from more than one of the Ivies! (Bet those supposed acceptances will be rescinded now!)

Who knows what her mother (or whoever) actually said about the girl’s college acceptances? I think there’s often a lot more to a story like this, and we may or may not ever hear about it. Indeed, as far as the reports go, there is no evidence that that the crime actually occurred aside from the mother’s statement. I don’t think colleges would rescind acceptances just because somebody is accused of a crime–that would be un-American.

Ah, come on. We can spin this the kid’s way. ;)

“Rachel is a determined and resourceful student”… “willing to go above and beyond the norm”… “decisive” …“goal-oriented”…“will add excitement to any campus”.

(Sorry, folks. Just a little attempt at humor on a humorless day.)

“Sorry, folks. Just a little attempt at humor on a humorless day.” Surely Rachel’s offers at the “several ivies” will be rescinded, bt she might still get into Amherst is she rights “Chicken McNuggets” in her essay! ;)

Holy cow! That would be one craaazy mother to make all this up…but there are crazy moms out there…It’ll be interesting to see what the real story is.

Dunno about this–possession of an officer’s stolen gun, terroristic threatening, assault and bodily injury. Much would depend on the prosecutor, judge & defense attorney. Sounds pretty sad to me. I would hope the family gets some counseling ASAP–really bad dynamic. :(
