Would-Be Ivy League Student Arrested-Threatened To Kill Mom

An article on the HuffPo College Section about a 17-year old lady who put a gun to her mother

Here's the link:
Ivy League Hopeful Rachel Anne Hochero Pistol-Whipped, Threatened To Kill Mom For Car

This girl seems to have severe emotional problems
Is it just me or do Asian-Americans seem to have a propensity to overworking their working. With the stories of the TigerMom, etc , I think this has become a really disturbing trend. Not to generalize but you would hardly hear such a story about an African-American Child, etc

This is an isolated event rather than “the norm.” I don’t think we have much to worry about for other Asian Americans becoming like this.

Were she african american or something, everyone would just brush it off as another incidence but because she’s Asian, some think that it’s because of a TigerMom lifestyle? Ehh. Don’t buy it.

I don’t think Hochero is an Asian name… I’d guess Hispanic.

that would be a great thread. “will I be rescinded for pistol whipping my mom? please help!!”

^…win.!! ^

Yes. This is definitely because she’s Asian! Asians are very prone to point guns at their parents and force them to by them a used car.

Makes me wonder which ivy league school accepted this pistol-whipping wack job…

way to go…generalize it to all asians.

I thought she was Filipino when i first saw her picture. That would account for the Hispanic name. However, no generalizations should be made in a case where there are clearly mental health issues involved; this can happen in any family.

I know. Just because someone looks asian doesn’t mean they are.

And seriously, when do you ever hear a story like this!?!?!?!

i have to agree with midwesterner; i’d say she’s filipino. she doesn’t look east asian, and plus she has a spanish last name.

o__O WHY DOES RACE MATTER AT ALL IN THIS EQUATION? This is -one- person, -one- incident in a wild, insane world of infinite possibilites. I really don’t see what race has to do with it.

Same here. However, these types of generalizations/stereotypes happen a lot. I remember being accused of being a thief in a store because of the strong racial stereotypes in my community. That hurt me so much . . .

^ right, but if Pilipina, though the genetics are Malay, the culture is mostly Spanish/Catholic.

Is this a post about Hispanic craziness?
