Hook?

I was wondering if it's possible to make extreme economic disadvantage (as in, below the poverty line, $0 EFC disadvantage) a hook. Is it advisable to write an application essay about overcoming such disadvantage, or would one be better off writing about something else and then applying for financial aid?

Thanks!

Write about that hook, but DO NOT in overtly make it evident that you want the addmissions officers to sympathize with you or anything. Any disadvantage that you talk about, reveal what you did to overcome it and show a positive side to it. Show maybe how it affected you for the better... But, I do think that is a good thing to write about if you can twist it so that the admission officers don't KNOW you're using a hook :)

I agree. Use it as an overcoming adversary type thing, but don't sound like you're looking for sympathy.
