Okay, so a few people in my hall got a hookah today in NYC. I've never smoked anything in my life, and never planned on starting, but they said that because it goes through water, that it's purer than normal smoke, so I tried it and it didn't make me cough or anything, felt nice going down, nice taste etc. but now I'm sitting here and I'm just wondering if it's true that hookah's not so awful, or is it as awful? I dunno, I liked it and if it's not super bad for you, I'd like to do it on a quasi regular basis (a couple times a month, maybe once a week NOT anything super frequent) because I did find it relaxing and social. I guess I'm just wondering if anyone knows more about its effects in comparison to other tobacco products?

it's really not that big of a deal if you do it once a week
enjoy life

hahahaha,....

hookah?

Dude marijuana and kouchie....hahaah

okay so yeah does anyone have any info on the health effects? like some sort of comparison with ciggaretts?

hookah reeeally burns your throat, more so than cigarettes in my opinion

really?? I found it super smooth, almost steam like. didn't hurt AT ALL which is why I like it. no coughing or anything.

smoking anything that infrequently will not hurt you.

why are there so many god damn *****es on this website. All of you are going to die in college when you realize that you have never partied in your life and you puke all over the cute girl from chem lab's chest after a beer and half a shot. What happened to all the smart kids that like to party? Am i the last of a dying breed?

equine,

If you enjoy it, do it once in a while. I don't smoke cigarettes at all, but once in a while some hookah or a cigar is really nice to pass the time with friends and a couple of drinks.

It's bad for you, but it's not going to kill you.

fromans22 I'm right there with you. Trust me there are still smart kids who like to and know how to party. Don't worry.

hookah is more harmful than cigarettes because hookah goes str8 to ur lungs where cigarettes u can somewhat control how much goes down ur throat and how much stays in ur mouth. nevertheless, hookah is mucccccch better. try using the apple, capuccino, or cherry flavored tobacco next time. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm yea i used to live in the middle east....theyre called sheeshas over there. U can't go to nay restaurat or cafe without having a sheesha lol

doing it once in a while isn't bad. The think you want to avoid is addiction. I'm ont sure how addicting they are compared to cigarettes though.

And please, don't be a tool about it. I saw a bunch of freshmen using one in the middle of the arts quad the other day. I wanted to kick all of them in the balls for looking so retarded.

I think you'd have better luck answering your question by googling

Psh, independent research and finding things on your own? That would sound the death knell of forums everywhere.

Some people prefer not to live that kind of lifestyle. I do party once in a while but my (and others') idea of a good time is just simply different, that's all.

LOL.

"Carbon monoxide concentrations found in the bloodstreams of water-pipe smokers has been found to be quadruple the levels in cigarette smokers, the report said. The nicotine content in water-pipe tobacco also tends to be higher than that found in cigarettes. However, pipe smokers are less likely to make it a daily habit.

Studies have shown lung and bladder cancer rates are higher among water-pipe smokers than among nonsmokers, and they are also at risk from pulmonary disease and other types of malignancies, the report said."
When it says report, it is refering to a journal called Pediatrics

Oh noes!!!11!!

Oh well.

I actually did google it, but what came up were very unreliable, some said it was worse (as the above posted) and other equally reliable looking pages said it was better (because the smoke goes through water first, which filters out certain chemicals, and also the stuff that's being smoked is only 30% tobacco [70%fruit and molases/honey]) sooooo I did to independant research :) I was just wondering if anyone else had anything better/more reliable. I know some people here are crazy smart about random stuff like this, so I was just looking for another opinion.

who careezzz, if u like it do it

I thought that the tobacco used for hookah had almost no tar and nicotine.
sure it's bad if you do it every day, but so are a lot of things.
(besides, a hookah is a hassle to set up, therefore the chances of it becoming a daily habit are not very high)

hookah is DEFINITELY more of a social thing rather than smoking to feel any sort of chemical effect, just enjoy life
