Yoo hoo! I’m going! Anybody else? I figured that it was sad that this place had no threads, so I started this one. Feel free to say anything.

Good luck, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Going away to college is such an exciting time, I'm jealous... :)

Thanks! I'm really excited. It will be a pretty big change from life in Indiana.

YAY for Mormons! :) I'm going, too? What are we majoring in?

Hey! I'm majoring in Neuroscience. I'm going to be premed. What about you?

that's so cool you're going to BYU! My sister's going this fall.

If you're on this site you must definitely have had tons of other options; what made you decide to go there? I ask because I sorta feel like I should go to princeton or stanford if I get accepted and also because a lot of the time other mormons just grate on my nerves a ton! Does that make any sense? I think my mom kinda wants me to go to BYU though. hmmm... maybe if I get that Hinckley scholar thing I'll end up going. Did you apply for that?

If you're not prepared for it, BYU can seem as if it has an oppresive atmosphere, but if you know what you're walking in for, then it can be very fun and rewarding. I have spoken to people who absolutely loved it, and others who felt like they were in prison. I'd suggest you really shop around.

Well, to tell the truth, I didn't have very many options. See, my high school is not the greatest, and I didn't really know of things I should be doing to prepare for college until just about my senior year when we got a new guidance director. So, although I applied to some tough schools, the closest I got to getting in was being waitlisted at Harvard and Northwestern. I did, however, get substantial scholarship money from Indiana University and Purdue University (would have had more there if I would have applied on time :) ) Anyway, at the end of the day, I was looking at taking a scholarship at IU or Purdue, or taking a scholarship (not Hinckley, but full tuition) at BYU. Personally, I think I'd like the social atmosphere a ton better at BYU, so that's where I'm going. I leave in less than three weeks and I cannot express how excited I am!!! At first, I was sort of disappointed that I didn't get in to any of the "prestigious" schools, but now those feelings have gone away, I am absolutely excited to be going to BYU, and I feel as though I was being a bit of a snob when I was applying to the prestigious schools. I wasn't snobby to other people, but I think I was a bit snobby on the inside. Anyway, I used to think it was really important to go to a prestigious school, but now I realize that it's better to go somewhere where you'll be happy, because it doesn't matter where you go but what you do while you are there :)

Oh yeah, by the way, sometimes other mormons get on my nerves, too. Some people in my ward really irk me. However, at BYU there are so many people that you are bound to find other people like you. Heck, some people there don't follow the honor code at all! Now, I am going to follow the honor code and stuff, but I am not as "molly mormon" as some people. I used to be worried about that, but now that I have met my roommates, I've realized that it's not going to be a problem and I'm going to have a blast!

it's so great to hear people give comments that were somewhat in the same boat as me! thanks!

You're welcome. I love talking about BYU right now, I'm just too excited to be going out there soon! Sixteen more days!!!

hey
new to the forum (*forums). I'm going to BYU this fall also. I so incredibly excited. I've been a BYU fan my whole life so it kinda goes without saying that I would go there but still. Did anyone here apply for the Hinckley? I did and got shot down. Full tuition isn't bad though. My problem is I want to major in everything (English, Accounting, Finance, Chem Engineering, Am Studies...) I just can't choose! For anyone reading this going in as a Frosh what classes are you taking?
I signed up late and missed a lot of what I really wanted but am currently in BoM, Econ 110, Acc 110, Intr Music (hopefully slacker class), and Biology

Hey! Welcome to the forum. Yeah, I applied for the Hinckley but didn't get it, but I agree that full tuition is good. This year I'm planning on premajoring in Neuroscience, so I'll be taking the prerequisite classes, like Book of Mormon, Chemistry, Biodiversity and Science of Biology, Writing, a couple others, and a premed class. It sounds like a lot but a couple are only one block long, so they aren't at the same time. I can't wait. Two weeks from today for me!!!

flipchick! I doubt you use CC anymore butif you do, I would love to hear about your experience at BYU. Im hoping to hear from them in the next couple of weeks about admissions! Anyway, I want to do premed and was wondering if you…did it? Im debating between neurosci or FamLife:HumDev. Anyway, Id love to hear things from you! Oh…and do you have any tips for me as a freshman?

Oh, did you guys already get your acceptances or something? I applied early action and still have to apply for the scholarships. :)

If you applied before Dec. 1 you hear back around Feb. 19 otherwise it’s Feb. 26

I applied before Dec. 1, and can’t wait to hear in Feb.
I’m doing a Comms. major, either Broadcast or Print Journalism.
OH my gosh, did you guys see they got rid of the matrix??? Now the only part of the matrix that exists is for full ride, 4 years. Dang it all, I hope I still get a 1/2 scholarship my freshman year.

Yeah, they did! I’ll just apply for scholarships the normal way. I don’t expect actually going there though. Just wondering when to hear back from the school.

Are you from Boise ? I couldn’t help but notice “boise” is in your screenname, I realize it could just be boi+something else, but I’m from boise so I feel obligated to ask. :)

Hahahaha, no, sorry. Framboise is my nickname since my real name is so close to that. (It’s French for raspberry). I live in Texas. :)
