To all of those who were rejected by Notre Dame please know that my heart truly goes out to you and I truly feel your pain. The reason I can truly say this is because Notre Dame was my dream school and I was rejected two years ago. Yet, here I sit as a sophomore at Notre Dame in O'Neill Hall. Rejection doesn't have to be the end of the story, it only has to be that way if you let it be that way. If you truly believe in your heart and soul that this is where you are meant to be and you are willing to put in a lot of extra work there is another chance. The day I was rejected was the first day that I called the transfer admissions office and talked about what I needed to do as a transfer (btw I would NOT recommend going to Holy Cross or Saint Mary's if you want to transfer as it is very difficult to do so from both those schools). If you want to be here please don't get down but start planning now to make another run at it.

As for me, I spent a wonderful year at Creighton University on scholarship and then I transferred to Notre Dame for my sophomore year. There is hope. Now I am not saying that you should give whatever school you go to a chance, you should. I went to Creighton as a pre-med and it was a great fit but when I switched to psychology it ended up being a horrible fit for me.

What I am trying to say is don't give up hope! Every Fall ND admits 125 or so transfer students from a range of schools (my year ranged from a few community colleges to Princeton). If you do your homework, take the right courses, and get solid college grades (>3.5) then you have a shot to get into Notre Dame.

Sometimes admissions makes mistakes, othertimes (like for me) they reject someone who just didn't do what they needed to do in high school but are ND quality students (though this post doesn't show it, sorry, I know it is bad). The point is don't give up if you want to be here. On my wall in my bedroom I have my transfer admissions letter and right behind it my rejection letter. They both are very important to me because they signify the journey of getting here, not just the destination. If I could change things and make it so I was accepted as a freshman I honestly wouldn't; I learned a great deal from my experience, met some wonderful people, and I wouldn't trade them for the world.

Don't give up! If you want to talk about how to transfer or the things you will need to do please feel free to PM me and I will give you my email address. Good luck and remember that everything happens for a reason, even rejections. If you are meant to be here you will be here, you may just be a little bit delayed. What I always tell my friends, and it is true, is I will get the same ND degree that they get but I will pay a lot less for mine due to my year at Creighton. Good luck!
