Hope my kid isn't rooming with one of these cc students!

DD has already exchanged cell phone numbers and email addresses with her roommate. If the kid went MIA....dd would just call her cell and leave a message "hi...hope everything is ok. Give me a call when you have a chance".

I have also told my daughter- to be sure and let roommates know where she is going, just out of courtesy.
When she was a junior- before school started I was trying to contact her & didn't get a response. I became concerned, but because I knew her HAs ( they were both friends) I contacted them, to see if they knew where she was.
She had gone on an out of town orientation trip, and just didn't mention it.
It wasn't a big deal to contact them- and later that year, when I knew she was having a rough time, and I was concerned about letting her know her cat died, I contacted her HAs first.
I have complained about Reed being such a small school, but sometimes there are advantages; like when there is an HA for a small group of kids.

Its just better to be safe than sorry, if foul play has occurred, it is important to have a clear idea of when they actually went missing.

A boy from my daughters high school went missing after a party at Tulane a few years ago. His friends however, notified the school right away, and a search was begun, but even so he wasn't found for several months( in the mississipi river).

I agree that it could be a situation where they just found someplace else to stay- but I don't even want to think about being a parent whose child went missing, and later found out that they had been missing long before anyone was notified
