<p>It’s not luck of the draw at this level, but it is highly subjective. So you can’t extrapolate from the result at Highly Selective School A what the result will be at Highly Selective School B. Hang in.</p>
<p>The only thing I might add is that a very small amount of the decision may be luck of the draw – when the application is read, the mood of the admissions officer, etc.</p>
<p>With that said, there is definitely a difference between subjective decisions and random decisions.</p>

<p>Well, I got a likely at Columbia and a deferral at Yale–so it really is kinda random I guess! But it is puzzling…</p>
