how does hofstra law compare in supplying new graduates to top nyc law firms? is it better to go to Hofstra in a hope to work in nyc or should i attend a more recognized school that isnt in the region. Job placement and oppurtunity in nyc is the most important attribute in finding a school. Are there any other schools i should consider. Im probably going to get a lower gpa with a very high lsat. Not due to work ethic but rather thats how my mind works. What schools within reason would be greatest matches

the rule of thumb is that if you cannot get into a t-14 is to get the highest regionally ranked school. In this case, Fordham and Cardozo are more highly ranked than Hofstra (you would probably have to graduate at the top of your class to have a chance for NYC placement)

i hate the stigma about high test scores and low gpas that i dont work as hard. i know if i get into the nyc law scene i can really excell given the real world implications, but i cant conjur the motivation when theres no reward except for a superficial grade. are there any specific prestiges porfessors in lesser known schools that i can generate motivation with. Life becomes more who you know not what you know and i want to be on the otherside of that for once in my life

sybbie719- i would really like to hear your personal take on the best place to go for a person like me. what brings you to the law forum? any anecdotal experiences you wish to enlighten me with

I have just plugged along on my over 6 years on cc. From h.s. to college, from college to law school. There are a number of threads her on CC that address your chances of NYC law out of Hofstra. In addition, I would recommend that you go to top law schools, which is also a discussion group where the question has been asked there a number of times.

Hang in a bit longer, as I am sure Jonri, Sally, Mike, Americanski and others will also tell you the same thing that I have just told you.

Figure out what your actual LSAT score is before trying to pick a school. It’s an exercise in futility trying to do it the other way around.

It would also be useful to wait until you actually start college to speculate about your future GPA.

I have to admit that I’ve never seen someone get defensive about their stats years before they had any stats to speak of, but yes, you should wait until you actually have an LSAT score before you look at any specific schools.
