<p>why exactly would upenn, which receives upwards of 20k applications per year, allow a kid with NO standardized test scores in? it's like giving a person a high-paying executive job on the basis that he'll eventually get his degree. that makes no sense.</p>
<p>people with his accomplishments are commonplace in admissions--just search the chances threads. unless the kid was royalty, penn doesn't need him that badly.</p>
<p>Well, he applied EA, so it was more like 3,000 kids that he was getting compared to. Also, is it really that uncommon for universities to judge a kid without standardized test scores? Judging from my Carnegie Melon app it says that my profile was committee read two weeks before they received my ACT scores. I know this story is crazy, hence it being in the "horror stories". Maybe they really liked his application essays, regardless I know this story is true, so I don't need to back it up anymore. </p>
