My son just finished 2nd semester and is in Bolivia now
for 2 month's volunteering in a local hospital.
It's a good chance to do shadowing and to master his Spanish.
He wants to keep continuing volunteering in hospital during summer break
for 3 or 4 yrs.

Which option is better for admission to medical school
just considering hospital volunteering ?
He's doing research and some extra curriculars now.

option 1 :
Doing volunteering in same location to show a kind of dedication
or
option 2 :
changing location/country to get different experiences in different environment.

or
option 1 and 2 is same ??

thx

I think option 1 will be better because of following reasons:

If you are dedicated, the MCAT admissions might ask you a question regarding this matter. Two of my friends (seniors) interned in Cyprus last summer. One of them, who was the president of the biology honorary society, said that the experience about internship in Cyprus came up. He is admitted to various medical schools.

By staying in one place, you will be able to get a stronger letter of recommendation.

You can even try, if possible, a long-term case study with the help of faculty. This is obviously not possible if you stay in one place for just a summer.

Option 2 is still good, but I say stick with 1. That’s what I would do.
