Right now i am home from my first year at UCLA. I'm going to be taking summer school classes while I am home, and i was wondering whether it would be worthwhile to spend time volunteering at a hospital for these two months. I know med school generally want us to volunteer long-term, so would volunteering for two months realistically help? I do plan on finding a longterm volunteer position when I get back to school, but I'm just trying to decide what i want to do during this summer.

Some volunteering is better than no volunteering. Since you don’t seem to have any volunteer experience yet, I’d take the two months.

^ +1 something is always better than nothing

I agree with the above two posts- whether it is useful in terms of med school or not it will give you a more realistic appreciation of medicine - plus it will be a lot of fun! (speaking from my own experience)

Just don’t waste a separate EC slot for these two months on AMCAS. Have one slot for “hospital volunteering” and list this and all other hospital volunteering you’ve done.
