Hospitalized and Missed Semester of Senior Year

Hi guys,

I was admitted to UCSD to Marshall College as an Undeclared Major, even though I applied as an aerospace engineering major. I am still considering attending UCSD but I have a few questions.

Early in my senior year I was hospitalized for 3 weeks with encephalitis. As a result I missed the remainder of the first semester of my senior, which affected my first semester senior year grades, affected my college applications, and prevented me from retaking the SAT as I originally planned.

I have already made up all the work for last semester and received grades in all my classes. Although I passed all my classes, my performance first semester wasn't on par with my grades previous years (and my grades this semester likely won't be that great either) Will this cause me to have my acceptance rescinded?

Is it possible for me to appeal for a change of major on the basis of my illness affecting my application? If I do go in undeclared at UCSD, how hard is it for me to get into the Aerospace Engineering major? I have been accepted to UC Riverside as a Mechanical Engineering major but I would much rather go to UCSD if I its possible for me to get the major that I want.

Thanks
