Host needed for open house

I’m an accepted student, and I will be visiting Amherst for the open house on Monday, April 21. The admissions office will only arrange for an overnight host for the overnight open house, which I cannot attend. I would really like to stay in a dorm and get to know some current students to a greater extent than just a day visit allows. Are there any current female Amherst students that would be willing to host me on Sunday night, 4/20? If that is not possible, I would also appreciate someone to show me around for a little bit on either Sunday or Monday. Thank you!

So, I guess I won't be able to stay overnight, since no one has responded to this. Does anyone have other suggestions about how I can get a better idea of the students, campus, etc beyond what a cursory tour can provide?

Are you sure the open house on the 21st will be nothing more than a cursory tour? I imagine there will be quite a bit more to it than that.

kqw, I'm sure part of the problem is there are probably no Amherst female students on this board. Where are you coming from ? Are there students at Amherst from your high school or area that you can contact?

If you have a particular area of interest (theatre? music?) or if you are planning on playing a sport - contact the appropriate coach/facultymember and ask if he/she can set you up with someone. All of the overnights that my S did were set up through coaches. I think he had a better experience overall with the overnights as the students were not just doing it for $, but had a vested interest in my S becoming part of their team.

You don't get paid for hosting any visitors. Everyone who hosts does it because they want to, not because they are getting paid.

Actually, there are many schools now that pay student hosts. I don't know specifically about Amherst, but I know several of the top LACs that pay their student hosts. In my day (the dark ages) we volunteered with the admissions office to do tours, hosting, etc. It is much more common now for schools to pay students for this service.

Try this site which lists current students that are available to talk about Amherst. One of them probably can help you locate a place to stay.
