Hot Take - Personal Advice | Also didn't listen to blue bayou accidentally only ended up at penn

Hi all/semester updates/possibly final update,

First things first, sorry bluebayou, I didn’t turn out to be a Harvard Law candidate class of 2023 or 24’.
Didn’t gap, not going to retake. I want to get apologies out of the way, I remember before starting college you giving me the advice of only focusing on GPA. Yes, I know what I lost by not retaking with a GPA of 3.97 which could’ve gotten me into Harvard with a gap year.

However today–

I came to share some personal advice going forward to all of you future college students looking into the law path.

Honestly, one of my biggest regrets was not starting to study for my LSAT earlier.
I studied for the exam on and off for about the year coming from a 150 diagnostic to an end of low 170’s after a bit over a year. I wish I started studying for it earlier.

If you’re someone like me who doesn’t procrastinate (thus, can’t study some exam on top of school for all day straight, then I recommend studying the LSAT as early as possible. A bit of over a year of studying on and off for this exam and I still had some PT’s I’ve never touched in the 80’s range.)

Also, after freshman year/Sophmore year’s first semester grades, if you can maintain a 4.0 or something really high, I HIGHLY recommend start studying the LSAT around then if you wish to KJD.

If not, then yeah, follow Bluebayou’s advice, I personally just wanted to KJD. Sorry bluebayou maybe it’ll bite me in the a$$ down the road haha~

My plans are BL (so for some of you future clerkship chasers, maybe don’t follow my advice), which means for me, Penn is good enough. So here ends my journey and possibly the retirement of this account. Sure, I gave up my, “Harvard,” dreams, but sometimes the end goal of BL was all I wish to achieve and there’s plenty of paths to get there.

Remember kiddos, follow Bluebayou’s advice but forge your own path too! Don’t be afraid.

Huge shoutout to Bluebayou for giving me his or her personal advice throughout the semesters, love you oldie.

EDIT 2: Also LSAT taught me how to study all day long, but the reason why I suggest to take it in undergrad is bc when I was working 40hrs/wk over the summer I really couldn’t touch my LSAT book at all. I was soooo exhausted, so that’s why I recommend undergrad to study LSAT when I felt more free? Maybe it’s different for y’all tho.

EDIT 3: ALSO shoutout to happy alumnis, sorry I couldn’t join the same law school as you, Harvard alumnis!!
Ugh, sorry about that!!! Thanks for commenting on my threads over the years too (head over to my profile threads if you don’t remember)

EDIT 4: Undergrad was personally a breeze for me, so for all you college students that’s kind of a reference/guideline in case you’re considering studying LSAT during undergrad. Perhaps for another student, it wasn’t as much of a breeze. (Econ major courseload for reference point ig.)

Curious as to what has created your interest in practicing law.

I have read your prior posts and it is clear that practicing law after attending a top 7 law school has been your goal since high school at least.

My lawyer goals are to change the world!! :’)

Well, Truth be told.

Back in high school I volunteered as a Teen Court Juror.

That created my Initial interest in law. (Although criminal law) And then over the years, I kind of learned the different fields of law in college.

I knew the relative rank of the law school mattered for employment prospects in BL, so of course I aimed high as possible. (But yes I also understand that landing a high rank at a tier 2 law school can also get me there, but better to be safe than sorry.)

Also my family has a tendency to plan things wayyyyyy ahead of time, so I always had a long term plan so I did a ton of research before entering college to decide law was the path to pursue.

Everything I did in undergrad was dedicated to building myself for law school, including the courses I took.

EDIT: minor grammar

My concern is that you may be setting yourself up for a bit of disappointment as nobody in biglaw changes the world.

Biglaw is all about promoting more of the same.

If finances are not a concern then, you should be okay.

alumni is the plural, not alumnis
