Thank you for your email.
PLEASE NOTE:
- Due to Christmas and New Year's holiday closures, plus the enormous volume of incoming mail and the need to keep current with data entry, there may be a delay of up to several days before we are able to respond to your email. If you would like more immediate assistance, please telephone our office at 1-860-435-3102 Mon-Fri from 8AM-4PM EST (limited days/hours between now and Jan 5th when we resume full time) and one of our admission associates will be happy to assist you.
- Interviews are a required part of the admission process. All requests for both on- and off-campus interview referrals should be made by telephone, please.
- On-campus and telephone interviews will continue through Jan 23rd; off-campus interviews will continue until Jan 30th and all these will be considered timely for the admission process.
- Standardized testing is also a required element of the application. Testing must have occurred between April 2008 and (through) January 2009 to be considered timely for first-round decisions for Fall 2009 entry.
- We will continue to receive and apply incoming materials throughout January without deadline penalty. In early February, all applicants whose files still show items missing will receive a notice to this effect. They then will be given a grace period to address these missing items before any files are considered too late for first round Admission Committee review and decision

I sent an email to hotchkiss admissions asking a question, and this is what i got back! looks like they are relaxing the dates for everything. and to those skeptics on CC, you can email hotchkiss admissions too if you don't believe this! :]

It seems like most schools actually start look by Feb 1 anyway. They do Jan 15 to give them time to notify people of missing parts and to get them in. I personally think it should just be a hard deadline of Feb 1 like andover for everyone.

I agree with lemonade. There is nothing in that email about a change. Get everything from the applicant and parents in on time. The bs's are more relaxed about pieces that come from your school and recommenders and know you have less control over them. For example, some schools end the semester in January and send the school report once those grades are in.

I received a mass email from one school stating that priority will be given applications postmarked by the 15th. Don't know exactly what that means. Also, it takes at least a week just to catalog all the application parts. I should have asked the principal to collect all the recs and send them in one envelope as a courtesy to the school son is applying to but didn't think about it until it was too late. We sent parents and candidate statements a few days after Christmas electronically. I think we're still waiting on one rec (not sure) and the transcript won't be there until the end of January. I was assured that this was NOT a problem at ALL.

I wonder if students help with the clerical work?

Please note that priority will be given to students who complete the entire application process (including the interview) by January 15, 2009. The Admission Committee will notify those applicants on March 10, 2009.

The Hotchkiss School will continue to accept applications after January 15, 2009; however, please be advised that students who complete the application process after the stated deadline face a more selective admission process. Decision letters on late applicants will be mailed out beginning in mid-April.

^ this is from their online application, right at the last page when you are supposed to electronically sign your application and write out the date/submit/everything.
