hi, im going to be a freshman this fall and I have some questions about the math placement test.
- do I have to take all 4 modules/tests?
- If my score isn’t high enough to qualify to move on to the next test, do I just take the class of the test I recently took?
- Is there any type of passing or failing grade that could be gotten? The email doesn’t explicitly state anything about passing or failing it.
Thank you!
It will all become clear when you take the test. It’s set up so that you can only move on to the next module if you get at least a certain score. In other words, each module is harder/more advanced than the last, and the point is to see where you top out. The school will then tell you at some point in June what class you’ll be in based on the results of the test. They’ll also tell you if you just barely missed doing well enough to place into a higher level course. If so, and only if you want to, you can do some additional studying over the summer and then retake it before school starts in the fall. When my son took it, he’d been taking geometry that year and so was a bit rusty on algebra. The placement test tells you what topics you didn’t do well on, and he knew that he really did know those topics, he just needed to brush up on them. Sure enough, after spending some time over the summer doing some additional review work (which you can do right in the same online program), he placed into a higher level class, which turned out to be the class that really was right for him.
