I go to Hotchkiss. No Hotchkiss students uses the term, “Hotchkissy,” it is a made up term exclusive to a single poster on this board. It’s not even defined on Urban Dictionary!

In reference to the post above (I’ve posted this on other threads):

That is so ridiculous. Why is Exeter so Exetery ? Why is Andover so Andovery ? Why is Deerfield so Deerfieldy ? I mean, I still don’t get it. Where is this rubbish comming from? These ridiculous rumors have got to stop.

This is one of the reasons I have not been as active on here anymore. The level of discourse in this place has dropped significantly. Nothing substantive seems to get discussed; and threads that are remarkably similar to each other, the Andover vs Exeter threads for instance, seem to have a way of creeping back up again and again like a ship on the high seas. This whole thing seems very ridiculous.

Furthermore, I find it remarkable how kids who have never been to any of these schools, find that they have the credibility to sum up the experience of attending one of these schools, and feel free to denounce such schools and refer to them as inferior to other schools, and ALL based on hearsay. Many on here use rumors they have heard on here to substantiate the rumors that they are spreading on here! That’s like using a secondary source (of questionable authority) that cites the bible to prove the veracity of the bible when you have never even read the bible.

Hotchkiss is Hotchkiss, a great school with great people. Look into it if you are interested in receiving a top notch education. PM me if you’d like, I’d be only to happy to reply to expound on my experience up in this resort in Lakeville.

To travshark:

I’ll have you know, if you have not been there, Hotchkiss has what is often considered the best boarding school swimming pool in New England. It really is fantastic. The coach does not believe in recruiting in the same way as many other sports at Hotchkiss, but he has still managed to churn out superb athletes and the Hotchkiss swim team is very competitive. The out-going captain of the Harvard team, who is one of the best swimmers in the country, trained under him as did one of my friends who, incidentally, is also going to Harvard. My friend is an All-American swimmer. I know I may be tooting Hotchkiss’ horn a little here, but I honestly believe Hotchkiss’ athletic facilities are second to none. Make sure you go and see the Mars Athletic Center during your visit.

Alright, so as a DA student, I was directed to this thread. I posted in another thread about DA being ‘jocky’ if you want to reference to that, but I’ll clear some things up here. First of all, hyeonhoy, just by reading your posts you come off as a bit aggressive. I hope no one thinks your attitude represents that of the DA student body.

Second of all, I would concede that if Deerfield and Hotchkiss are not completely equal in Athletic ability (which they appear to be…), Hotchkiss this year is a little bit better. There are little details I don’t know that much about, but it’s my understanding Hotchkiss and Deerfield both have their fair share of PGs.

I didn’t even tour Hotchkiss - their gym facilities are raved about, that much I know. We’re getting the dingier half of our gym renovated over the summer, as well as our student ‘hangout’, and the designs look amazing, a lot more natural light and space. Our new science center was extremely expensive but is also as modern and state-of-the-art as it gets. As for the more “drab” buildings, maybe it’s not your taste but in the fall and spring, the older academic buildings are the most beautiful on campus - they just look natural in the Western Massachusetts rural environment. Either way I wouldn’t want to be anywhere 'cept DA, and facilities are footnote in the overall experience. It’s about the community the buildings hold, not the buildings themselves.

Academics are always hard to measure. DA beats out Hotchkiss in a couple stats (matriculation, acceptance rate), but really HADES schools are on the same tier. It’s the little things that add up to what makes a school right for you when you compare to schools as similiar (on paper) as Hotchkiss and DA, not the big things like academics that are so close to the equal.

…uh. i don’t like either. went to taft. i like the laid back environment. deerfield and hotchkiss are wayyyy to formal. hell, we went to deerfield for a game and they had things protecting they’re seal, and we were all, okay chill.
and hotchkiss is in the middle of nowhere. like, farmland. but maybe i’m biased… since i’ve been going to taft haha.
