I recently called and asked if late teacher recommendations would delay the process, and the answer was yes...missing academic and counselor recommendations, transcripts, etc. would delay the decision as they must be received in order to review the application. Given the dates you listed, I doubt that there will be that much of a delay. We were concerned that a teacher rec would not be received by the Nov 1 deadline, and they just basically advised us to try and make sure it was received as close to the deadline as possible to remain eligible for the audition date we were hoping for.

D's couselor sent her rec letter the end of August, but her official transcript was not sent by her HS until the week after Labor Day. Not sure what that means other than that it appears that UMich sends out the confirmation emails as soon as all related docs have been received. Although I am not familiar with your D's stats, from what SoozieVT writes I gather that she has more info and that your D is more than ok in the academic department :), so no worries about getting an invite :)

Thanks, guys. I am just worried that everything will be logged in by that magic Dec. 1 date, which they are very specific about on the SMTD website. My D does not want to audition until early February, so yes, there is still time. But this is the only audition she has not confirmed/set up and she is just anxious because she loves this particular school so much. I think soozievt is undoubtedly right and that the material (transcripts and guidance counselor rec) are there, but have not been logged in. Still, as SAT scores sent last August never arrived at another school and had to be re-sent, she is worried about what if's, as in "What if the transcript went astray?" etc. Oh, well, worrying does us no good. Just have to wait. Thanks again for all of the support.

Hi - Have fun at auditions this week, Chelle! Sounds like you already kind of know how this works, but I can share our experience from last year. If she hasn't already gotten it, your d will get her audition schedule in a folder when she checks in Friday morning at the info session. Is it still at the Mendelssohn Theatre in the Michigan League building? That will be just downstairs and really convenient for you! That session, which parents also attend, lasted about an hour and the kids then went off for the dance audition. There are places for parents to hang out and get coffee in the Michigan League building while the dance audition is going on. Your d can meet you back there as it is just across the street from The Power Center, where the dance auditions are held. I seem to remember the dance auditions lasting about two hours last year. Depending on when your d's voice/acting auditions are, you may need to head up to the North Campus soon afterwards. My d's auditions were a bit later in the afternoon so she met me back at our nearby hotel and changed before we checked out - and we also had time for lunch downtown before we drove up to the North Campus.

Once you get to the Moore Building on the North Campus, parents do pretty much just hang out in the lobby. There is some food there if you didn't get a chance to eat. Parents also go to a session with Laura S., to get more info about the program, financial aid, etc. The kids hang out with each other - and wait to be called to audition. Let us know how it goes!

Best of luck with your auditions! You will love Umich and Ann Arbor. We recently stayed at the Michigan League and it is so convenient. there is a nice coffee shop and a lobby to hang in and it is right accross the street from the Power Center where the dance auditions are. One bit of advice, when traveling to North Campus, you might want to take the shuttle bus. Parking is brutal in Michigan and they are quick to ticket. We were inside of the School of Music for all of 20 minutes and got a ticket. If you follow the pathway behind the music building it will leed you to the North Campus student union where there is plenty of food and places to rest. You can also check out the new Walgreen center and theater. There will be current MT students assigned to work the auditions and they have a wealth of practical knowledge.

Inasmuch as this thread seems to have changed a bit, about what kind of GPA/test scores does one need to receive "an invitation to audition" at U of M for musical theater?

We ended up staying at the Red Roof Inn for 45.00 a night on Wednesday. We drove up a day early to spend time on the campus. On Thursday we stayed at the Michigan League. It cost 150.00 a night. Big difference in price, but it was convenient staying on campus.

Just wanted to thank you guys for being so supportive as my D (and, OK, I, too) worried about her guidance counselor forms and transcripts arriving and being logged in in Ann Arbor before the magic 12/1 priority deadline. Well, lo and behold, they were logged in last week and arrived on 10/31, so now she just has to wait for the invitation to audition. Keep your fingers, toes and eyes crossed! Best of luck to every kid auditioning; it's a FABULOUS program.

I don't know for sure what GPA they require, however it does appear that they hold academics very highly. Once they have their pool of MT candidates (20, --10 boys and 10 girls), they sit down with the entire file on a student and consider the academics, as well as the audition review for merit awards.
