My dear son finally settled on Purdue for FYE/ChemE intent and I could not be more excited for him. We are from Georgia and need to start thinking about visiting (we have not been on campus yet!) and boiler gold rush/move in day. Anyone have a recommendation for a hotel close to Purdue campus?
Congrats!!! I have a junior chem e and the department is fabulous!
We typically stay at the bottom of the hill at the Hilton Garden Inn or if that is full, the Hampton Inn across the street. Both are walk to campus. The Union Hotel on campus, which was just renovated, is also now open.
Make your reservations as soon as possible as the rooms book up very quickly.
If you can’t get a reservation at one of those three spots, there is a new inn that is getting rave reviews that is a short drive away, The Whittaker Inn: https://www.thewhittakerinn.com
Oh thank you so much! I have heard that the hardest thing at any college is to get a hotel room during freshman move-in weekend so I am looking now.
I really appreciate the hotel advice and hearing how much your daughter loves the department! Definitely makes me feel great about his decision. I am so excited for him. Boiler Up!
Hammer down! ; )
There are also plenty of hotels in Lafayette if necessary but it’s ideal to not have to drive once your new Boiler is moved in. Good luck with the reservations!
We have always stayed at one of the Hilton or Marriott properties in Lafayette with good success. The only negative experience has been the Four Points in West Lafayette - I would avoid it (Marriott and TripAdvisor ratings support this).
The on-campus property is quite nice, and extremely convenient, but it tends to be more expensive (and I can’t use my points for free stays).
The Lafayette properties are almost all clustered together, just off the highway, with many food options nearby. It’s about a 15 minute drive to campus.
Advance hotel planning is indeed a must. In anticipation of Parents Weekend, I make reservations for every home football game weekend as soon as the schedule is announced. Move-in, graduation, etc. are the same - as soon as I think about it after reservations open ~50 weeks out.
You’re not kidding on the Four Points. Have no idea how that property has a national brand flag.
Thank you for the helpful information!

Parking is right across the street in a parking garage.
Also, if you haven’t done so already, you can post your questions in the Purdue University forum, and get information from posters who are already interested in or knowledgeable about Purdue.
