Hours in an activity, what do you put?

On the applications, it will ask for hours in an activity. If, for example, I spend 5 hrs a week at the actual orchestra, but then I spend way more than that practicing for that orchestra on my own, do I put down 5 hrs, or do I estimate how many hours I practice for it and add that in?

Estimate. It’s not meant to be exacting – no one is going to verify. It’s for information only

Conversely, it matters almost nothing.

Practice time is included, but make sure your numbers are honest. I heard a talk by an admissions officer this summer who said their office automatically rejects applicants with hourly estimates where the total exceeds the number of hours available in a week.

No one will check, but getting accepted or rejected isn’t going to hinge on whether you had 2 more hours per week
