Unfortunately the artist owner died of COVID. While her style is not necessarily my style, her artistry was lauded and she placed multiple works around the area per this tribute. One line re the house. “ Her house is like a museum of her work with a wispy, uplifting flow from the exterior façade to the tiniest niches in the interior.”
In other words, the new buyer will be an outcast if s/he scraps all the things that make it “special.”
The “Seuss-like” house has some whimsy! A buyer could easily tone down the outside if they wanted. I think this house could have an audience.
The new buyer, when one is eventually found, may also be thanked for getting rid of the eyesore. If I lived across the street, I’d be first in line.
Such an expensive piece of land. I’d build a more traditional McMansion. The quality of materials aren’t that “swanky” either. Maybe some “Avant Garde” type will buy it and add to “motif.”
Well, that can be your opinion! There are many times that a “McMansion” is obnoxious and overkill in other ways than color or pattern on a home.
Traditional can = blah. MY opinion.
Someone posted the house. I commented on it.
I’d probably have to change the bathrooms. Only time in it would tell if I could adjust or not since we don’t like changing anything that isn’t broken (or otherwise worse) for environmental concerns.
The rest I think I like. But again, I’d never pay that much for a place to live in when there are so many other suitable options around our country. We prefer traveling instead.
LOL - We’ve procrastinated on renovating out 1993 kitchen. About 10 years ago we switched from brass lighting to black/white. I like it ok, but hubby would like to remodel. We traveled to Europe 3 times, and I’m happy with though, since that was an expense we could easily agree upon.
Just as an FYI, this is the house across the street: https://www.redfin.com/CA/San-Diego/952-Cornish-Dr-92107/home/5740913 I doubt they’re looking towards the arty house!
We had McMansions go up all over my old home town and some of them were awful - tried to see how many different kinds of materials they could put on the outside. Wood, stone, brick, shingles - like they couldn’t make up their mind. It would be the wrong kind of house for this coastal community. First definition that comes up on search for McMansion is: 1. a large modern house that is considered ostentatious and lacking in architectural integrity.
Ooooo, now THAT house I could get behind.
The laundry room is bigger than my first apartment.
Wow the doors on the elementary school are spectacular.
I didn’t mind the front of the house - I’m pretty used to that style of architecture from Frank Gehry offshoots, but I could never live with all the giant checkerboard.
Yes, I’ll take that one, please!
But the double set of washers and dryers? What’s with that? Or maybe it’s so the housekeeper can do all the sheets and towels in one day?
With 5 people including 2 swimmers in the house, I would love the double sets; I don’t know if I could reach to put the soap in the uppers though
It reminds me of a couple of Hotel Indigos I’ve been to or maybe walking through an IKEA. I’m not complaining I own an IKEA kitchen I designed.
I’m trying to figure out what organizations I need to join to meet the people who live in this house. Maybe I can fake a walking accident in front, or knock on the door and ask if they’ve seen my dog - if I had a dog . @coralbrook - do you know them?
So. Much. Wood! I’m shocked someone would build this in 2019. Check out the two side by side French door fridges in the kitchen. His and hers? Why not a single Subzero?

As bad as the excessive wood is, the furniture and decor are worse. There isnt one room that I don’t hate.
Maybe they need two freezers for all the elk or moose meat? I want to know - or maybe I don’t - what’s hiding under the fur in the walk in closet.
That house has a surfeit of patterns, especially in the bathrooms. I kind of like the grand staircase with the river of stone (not the landings however), but it looks like something from a museum, not a home. It also looks like something that could figure prominently in a mystery movie where someone “accidentally” falls down a staircase.
You can’t really see it in the photos, but in the 3D walkthrough you can see an old corner breakfront with Grandma’s china to the right of the fridges. Totally out of sync with all the other decor.
what is it with the excess of appliances - too many washing machines - too many refrigerators?
I’m really puzzled by the skinny room with a purple futon (?) in it. Why?
BTW… The price does not shock me. This is the area known for megabuck$$$ listings.
