Due to “increased demand for housing.”
Any insight as to how over enrollment has been handled in the past? Do singles become forced doubles? Does not sound like the Vue53 option rectified the housing crunch.
They’re moving upperclassmen from housing to Vue53 and using the space to give places to all first years. They aren’t making any forced doubles or (heaven forbid) triples.
Does this mean that first years will get their housing preferences still? I want north, south, or max but now I’m like afraid I won’t get them.
It must depend on where you are in the housing queue, and how many upperclass students from your choices are heading off to VUE 53. Are they relocating houses or making new ones?
It will probably be harder to get into the dorms people want more, but they are going to have space for everyone. They just aren’t going to have a bunch of open spots in I-House like they usually do.
Also, Vue53 is not going to be a part of any currently existing house. I suppose the university may try to brand it as a new house but it’s going to be a bunch of random upperclassmen from all over that decided they wanted to leave their old houses and live in a luxury apartment building, I wouldn’t bank on much interaction among those who are living there. I guess if you squint a bit it might seem like an actual house.
There was a time when a UChicago undergraduate would have opted for luxury over community any day. Things really HAVE changed.
Has anyone ordered the micro-fridge yet, or does anyone know whether the rental deadline has been moved due to the room-assignment delay?
Anyone know what time today dorm assignments will be posted?
It seems like last year that is was around 4PM Chicago time…
It’s been posted.
THEY’RE POSTED!!!
