Housing Application & Questionnaire

Recently, I’ve been informed that there is no real roommate matching system: that what you get is what you get.
I would like to double check this. As in I realize there is a Housing Application, but does the Housing Application match you up with a suitable/similar roommate as yourself?

I am attending Thurgood Marshall College, if that changes anything.

That’s definitely not the case, unless they’ve massively changed things since summer 2014.

Back then, HDH said: “Roommate requests will be done online via the Housing My Application website. You will receive an e-mail with instructions on how to submit your room preference and roommate requests. All roommate requests must be mutual and must be between two students in the same college. Both students must also have a housing guarantee and select the same room type preference. Roommate request will not be able to be made until sometime in July (around July 11th). You will receive an e-mail from Housing and Dining when the room preference and roommate request forms are available. We will only be accepting roommate requests via this method.”

The first form, emailed to you in June, asks you the questions listed below. The second form, which HDH was referring to in the above message, simply asks you about your facility preference, room layout preference, and requested roommate’s/roommates’ name(s), email(s), and PID(s).

The first form had the following questions to match you with a random roommate and to show your suitemates:
(Mark Yes, No, or No preference)

  1. I smoke.
  2. I am bothered by smoke.
  3. I am very meticulous about my room and need it to be clean all the time.
  4. I am tolerant of alcohol use.
  5. I am tolerant of my roommate having guests stay overnight in our room.
  6. I go to bed at midnight or later on weekdays.
  7. I am awake early each weekday morning.
  8. I consider myself outgoing and prefer to be housed with someone who is also outgoing.
  9. I am comfortable sharing my belongings with my roommate.
  10. I frequently like to study with music playing.
Characteristics of a good roommate/suite mate:
    Other considerations:
    Activity type preferred: (indoor/outdoor activities)
    Favorite recreations and hobbies:
    Academic interest preferred:
    Payment plan: (annual/quarterly/monthly)

I hope this helps!

It does!
Did you happen to get sorted randomly or did you find a roommate beforehand?

I found one beforehand via Facebook and got matched with the other randomly. I’m still close friends with both of them and will be living with the random guy next year
