Back in the Paleolithic era, I lives on the 10th floor of Hinton James, so I feel your pain. But it's really not that bad. Yes, you will have to allow about 15-20 minutes to walk to your 8:00 Poli Sci 101 class in Hamilton 100. But the buses run all the time and walking is good exercise. I will not be surprised if my own daughter ends up in what the students now call "HoJo." Just be glad you are in Chapel Hill. You will probably end up on North Campus eventually, and a year in Hinton James will make you appreciate it all the more. Good Luck in the Fall!!!

Getting "stuck" in HoJo turned out to be an awesome experience. I was disappointed at first but quickly realized it was a great place to be. Sure I might have had to leave for class a little earlier than the few freshmen I knew on North Campus but living with in suite style dorms with 1000 freshman meant I had a lot more fun and made more friends than they did in their hall style dorms with upperclassmen who already had friends off campus they hung off with. Just take some big fans for the first few weeks of the year and you'll be fine. If nothing else it provides a good conversation starter the first few weeks grumbling about the lack of AC. Like the poster ahead of me said, just be glad you're in Chapel Hill and make the most of your freshman year.

BigE- i got assigned ehaus south, which has ac, but i was actually thinking "damn, there arent as many freshmen, i kinda wish i got HJ instead". i heard from others that HJ grows on you =]

Everyone I know who lived in Hinton James freshman year LOVED it. It's just such a social place. I know rising sophomores who were dying to be put in HoJo again this year, lol.

Good news for people in Hinton James- Floor 7 is now fully air-conditioned, and they're working on Floor 6. Hopefully they'll make it through the whole dorm, lol. : )
