Applicannot-
Just a tip…we found an electric egg cooker at Bed, Bath and Beyond. Add a little water to the base, pop in 6 eggs and in 15 minutes you have hard boiled eggs. Stick 'em in your fridge and you have breakfast on the go…

My daughter eats breakfast too, and being an athlete with early practices will likely never use the breakfast service in the dining halls. Hard boiled eggs, yougurt, string cheese, and fruit will all keep well in her fridge and be a great start to the day.

Like earthwise said, it’s probably worthwhile to make friends in your own dorm. It kind of sounds like you’re ruling off the possibility of getting to know them before you even meet them. Yes, you might have friends in Wilbur and Stern, but that doesn’t mean you can’t hang out in Alondra, too.

@applicannot. I can understand your frustration. As to your PWR preference, it’s really easy to switch. You don’t even need to give much of a reason. Just tell them that there are certain classes that you want to take in whatever quarter and there won’t be space to fit your PWR class and they’ll switch it for you. Incidentally, which quarter did you get assigned for PWR?

As to IHUM, there really isn’t a great IHUM. They equally suck, Journeys and Freedom, Equality, Difference being the possible exceptions. In any case, whichever IHUM you’re in, you’ll have people in your dorm to complain about it with and stay up in the nights writing essays together.

As for the dining hall food, while FloMo might be small, it has really great food. I lived in Wilbur last year, and the only dining hall that had worse food than Wilbur, was Stern. I often frequented FloMo for dinner.

The hot breakfast I understand, but if you sign up for the 14 meal plan, you can get Cardinal dollars and buy some hot breakfast in Tressider before classes.

If you honestly begin to have health issues because of your dorm, they’ll move you somewhere else. One of my friends last year lived in Mirlo and had serious issues with her allergies and she got moved to a single in Lagunita (she was a sophomore). There was one other girl (a freshman) I know of who switched dorms because she had a lot of problems with her roommates, and she was moved into an all freshman dorm.

So cheer up! It’s no use starting school on a sour note. When you get to Stanford, you’ll see how amazing it is and you’ll forget all of these concerns. I hope things work out! :D
