Did I hear a rumor that our housing assignments (not roommates) will be given out in august?

Yeah we will find out on in the middle of august.

They mail them out on the 11th.

^Yeah but only the housing assignments

Yeah, they don't let us know anything about our roommates in advance, so that we don't develop any preconceived notions.

Still I am pretty excited to find out what dorm I will be living in next year.

pray it's not stern

^why?
And is stern all frosh or four class?

Stern is one of the collections of dorms. There's Wilber, and Casa Zapata and Twain in the hall. Kind of like Flo Mo. I think they are all four class but I don't know. A lot of people have warned me against Stern.

Well then I really hope I didn't get stern especially because I put four class as first priority...

I chose four class as my first choice, but because of a medical condition my doctor requested that I be put in a dorm close to campus... the closest dorm to campus is Stern. WHich of course is something I didn't think about when I made the request.

I chose four class because I like peace and quiet a lot more than loud noise. I mean sometimes its ok but really sometimes my head hurts and I feel like strangling anyone who makes too much noise. I heard that four class dorm's were generally quieter so I chose them.

That was the same reason I chose four class.

That and it would be nice to have upperclassmen around to give advice and stuff.

Wilbur all frosh: Cedro, Junipero, Otero, Rincanada
Wilbur 4-class: Arroyo, Okada, Soto, Trancos

Stern all frosh:Donner, Larkin
Stern 4-class: Burbank, Twain, Zapata, Serra

FloMo all frosh: Alondra (SLE), Gavilan, Paloma
FloMo 4-class: Cardinal (SLE), Faisan (SLE), Loro, Mirlo

Branner is all frosh

Roble is all 4-class

Everything in Lagunita Court is 4-class Eucalipto, Granada, Adelfa, Ujamaa, Casa Naranja

I personally think all frosh Wilbur is the best housing available for freshman, but I'm a bit biased. Wilbur probably has the best food (although people claim that Lag has decent food now too). The rooms in Lag can be TINY. Many of them are singles that have become doubles, which we lovingly call dingles. The rooms in Stern and Wilbur are about the same size. Wilbur has a more welcoming feel to it (it doesn't look like it's the fortress from which we will defend the school if anything goes wrong). FloMo just doesn't have a reputation for being all that great, probably in part because of the social stigma of SLE. It does have ice cream at every meal though and all the closets are capable of holding a ballroom gown. In the end the people in the dorm probably matter a LOT more than which building you live in.

stern is gonna suck balls next year b/c of the construction right next to it. also, serra and zapata were four class dorms w/ only doubles, but now many rooms were made singles for upperclassmen b/c of the construction (to give SOME incentive for students to live there). so many people tried to get into those this year, and that means less people to meet in stern, and those people in singles might be more antisocial than others since they really really wanted singles.

anyway, the construction and whole singles situations sucks for freshman more than any other class.

true...but i'd say upperclassmen are going to be more cliqueish on average than freshmen. so technically, depending on whether you get a four class building or not, the people will probably be a certain way. but in terms of the best all frosh building or best four class, THAT depends on the people. hmmm...that kind of made no sense...haha.

Yeah, I guess I was trying to say that the best of the all frosh or four class depends on the people. I LOVED my all frosh dorm (even though before admit weekend I was 100% sure I wanted a four class dorm) and so my opinion of whether all frosh or four class is better is very, very biased.

i had a four class dorm and loved it, but i still would recommend a frosh dorm to any freshman...although for the class of '10 it doesn't matter anymore since the deadline passed for that stuff i think.

I've heard that most people prefer the frosh dorms, because upperclassmen tend to be more cliquish and/or studious, and many don't feel like socializing with freshmen, while everyone in the frosh dorms wants to meet each other and hang out.

^^usually that's the case. upperclassmen can be social too, but you have a better chance w/ your own class.

a good thing about four class dorms is that you usually get really close to the freshman there, since you have to stick together more than in an all frosh dorm where there's tons of people to chill with from your own year. BUT if you don't like the freshmen in your 4 class dorm, that will suck.

wish the websites were up with pics and all..

400metres -- i'll post some pictures of my dorm room freshman year (rinconada) the room layouts of all wilbur and stern dorms are pretty much the same.. i just have to figure out how to post pictures??
