Just wondering about what kind of housing is most common at Dartmouth for first years. I hear that around 50% of the rooms are singles but is it common for freshmen to get a single? And another question, what kind of room do you think is best?

I think the majority of freshman dorms are two room doubles or triples. There are singles, three room doubles, and one room doubles as well. Personally, I knew I wanted the experience of living with a roommate freshman year, so I requested to live with a roommate. I have no idea how common it is for freshman who request singles to get singles. I lived in one of the “worst” dorms for a freshman, but had a great freshman year living situation because I loved my roommate and other floor mates. I think a lot of how people feel about their housing has more to do with the relationships they form with their floor than with the dorm itself or the type of room.
