dorms?

how are the dorms at dartmouth? how easy is it to get a single as a freshman?thanks.

My S, who is a freshman this year, is in the brand-new, beautiful McLaughlin Cluster in a double-double room. He and his room share 2 rooms and he is very happy with his accomodations. The five-building cluster houses mostly freshman, although upper classmen were assigned singles. Other clusters do allow for freshman singles.

It's apparently pretty easy freshman year--if you want one, odds are you'll get one. I believe there were more singles than applicants last year!

However, I'd ask you to at least consider a two-room double (and I'm by no means the most social individual here!). These have the benefits of a roommate, and a degree of privacy comparable to a single.

The dorms are great here, even the "not so nice ones" are much nicer than the average dorms I've seen at other schools. I have a single, which is great, but my friends with one and two room doubles all seem to get along fine, even the ones who are more private.

I am so ignorant. Can someone explain what is a one room and a 2 room double?

One room is just that, a single room, that could be a singlem a double or a triple. a 2-room double sleeps 2 people. there are 2 rooms, some people coordinate them as use them as 2 separate bedrooms others use the beed room as a double where they both sleep and the other room as a sitting room.

attached is a listing of the residential communities
