I was just wondering this.. I'll probably ask my counselor at school too though.
Is it possible to get a single room as a freshman at Harvard? I do have some medical basis (baaaaaad allergies and extremely infection prone) but it's not like I have a wheelchair and an oxygen tank.
I don't know what the housing survey for Harvard necessarily looks like, but I have seen a couple where you can check off you want a single room rather than a roommate, but I have no idea how seriously they take those. It seems to be pretty darn random.
I don't even know if I'm going yet, I'm still waiting on one other Ivy, and I know this question probably comes off not how I intend it to, but I seriously want the single so I can control my "home" environment more and actually breathe in the comfort of my own room for the first time in many years.

my sister is a sophomore and she had a single freshman year with no special reason to do so. She had a suite with 5 girls. 3 had singles and 2 shared a double and they all shared a large common room. Their bathroom was shared by their suite and one other suite of 5 girls. so I would guess you can.

The online housing questionnaire is very detailed, down to the type of music you like. You can specify the type of room you prefer such as singles. However, it doesn’t mean you will get a single. College is a learning experience. Sometimes sharing a room might be a part of what you need to experience.
