Any input from current students/parents about the pros and cons of each house? They all look amazing online (at tour we only saw a “parlor” in one house).
As an incoming first year, your only house choice is Strong (the all-female house), so there isn’t much point worrying about it.
Fwiw, my daughter was sure that she got the worst floor in the worst dorm when she first got her housing assignment. By October she said that there was only one other house she would even think about living in. She will be starting her third year in that dorm this September
^^
I believe Kibbles is the parent of a son. Regardless, unless a woman requests Strong, she can be assigned to any of the nine houses.
yes, @CrewDad - I phrased that badly! I meant to say that the only house you can request as an incoming first year is Strong (if you are a female), otherwise you get assigned
Thank you…yes I have a son and we’ve looked at all the dorms on Youtube (lol). They all look wonderful. Thanks for the input.
We were told Strong was for those who self-identify as female.
S2 has lived in 2 dorms and every time we have visited, someone is always playing wonderful music pm the grand piano in the common room(s). I think each dorm has a Steinway!
^^
They do. Only the Steinway factory and Oberlin College have a larger collection of Steinway pianos
So, any comments on the “Do you believe in magic” question on the housing questionnaire? My daughter though it was entertaining, and she heard somewhere that if you said Yes to that that you would be placed in Cushing. I have a feeling it’s not as cut and dried as that.
Thanks Stepay. Now the Lovin’ Spoonful are singing in my head.
Another “legend” is that they pair up roomies who have opposite answers to that question. While that was true with S, he says he knows others where that wasn’t the case.
@stepay , Really??? I don’t know how my daughter answered the questionnaire, but she ended up in Cushing. Well, she was waiting for the letter from Hogwarts when she turned eleven…
Sorry @CrewDad but it could be worse. I could have said “Da do run run run da do run run”.
Hmm…I guess the parents who want their daughters in an all-girl dorm might be concerned if there was still an anatomic male sharing a bathroom with their daughter. Interesting legal dilemma.
@HiToWaMom : I assume your daughter is already attending Vassar? Or is she an entering freshman and already found out about dorms?
@stepay, can you figure out how to put an audio track on CC pages?!
@kibbles , She just finished her sophomore year at Vassar. Although she enjoyed Cushing very much, she is moving to one of the apartments on campus next school year. They do a wonderful job at the freshman orientation. The bond they create within the house and the hallmates seems very very strong.
