Housing, Beds, etc.

Can someone give me personal information about which house is better? Is Wolman really far from the library? Single, double room? What size beds? etc…

I think it depends what you’re looking for. All the houses have their perks. AMR I and II are the famously “social” dorms, but that also means that they can get loud… And the bathrooms can get nasty, haha. I lived in AMR II my freshman year, and overall, it wasn’t the nicest house, but I met all of my really close friends there and I wouldn’t trade the times we were able to hang out together and stay up late talking in the hallways for a nicer place.

The Buildings (AMR III) are supposedly nice, but also very quiet. I haven’t been through them too much. Also, there’s the perk of being above the Fresh Food Cafe. Wolman is also very nice, and suite-style, but it is a bit far from the main campus (although it’s only a 3-4 minute walk to the library). I had a friend who lived in Wolman but made lots of friends in the AMRs, so she would have to trek back and forth all the time. Chances are, if you live in the Buildings or Wolman, you’ll be doing homework in your room more often than in the library.

There’s probably other housing for the freshman, since the classes just keep getting bigger, but these were the options when I was applying. As for rooms, it really is a toss-up unless you pick a roommate in advance. My roommate was fine to live with, but she never spoke to me, so it was always like we were ignoring each other… Other roommates are best friends to this day and like living together. Others have some… issues. I think Housing does a pretty good job of matching people up in terms of their cleanliness, sleeping hours, etc. though. Plus, if you get a good roommate, you have someone to live with next year! So unless you really want a single, I’d try out the double.

I think all the beds are Twin XL.
