housing for concurrently enrolled students?

I'm planning to take two statistics classes at UC Riverside this fall. (The graduate admissions committee told me that I could be admitted as a full-time student next year if I did well enough in those two courses.) I live pretty far (about 400 miles) from Riverside, though, so I will need a place to stay locally.

I am aware that the regular housing is available only to admitted students, but I've been told that the UC Riverside Extension dorms and the International Village are available to part-time students. However, there's a problem: I've heard that the fire code of the building is very strict, and students are not allowed to use their own microwaves. Can anyone confirm this? If that's the case, having to eat cold food all the time would surely stink! (Of course, I could go to the cafeteria or a restaurant, but it seems pretty unhealthy to do that all the time.)

On the other hand, I've also been told that the International Village does not have this restriction. Does anyone have any opinions about that place? Alternatively, I could rent an apartment, but I'd prefer to stay in a dorm.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
