What is the best place for a freshman to house at UP? I’d like to be close to the music buildings, but I also don’t want to be completely antisocial.
The three options I was thinking of - East, North, and West - all have their pros and cons. What would be the best in your opinion?
East is really far from everything. Be prepared to walk a lot or wait for the campus buses. I’ve also heard that while East is a great place to party, it’s not a great place to sleep. There’s stuff going on all the time, often loudly.
North I don’t know much about, besides the fact that it’s mostly upperclassmen. I believe many arts students live up there, since it’s close to at least one Arts/Architecture building. It’s also somewhat far from things (East and North are about as far as you can get from downtown, if that matters to you; but they’re close to Forum, where you will most likely have class). I think North also has suite-style living, if you can get into that as a freshman?
I have two HS friends who live in West. I think they like it pretty well. It definitely has a great dining hall (THE COOKIES ARE GREAT). The room seemed kind of small when I went to sleep there (a pipe burst in my building at 2 AM while it was snowing) but. Dorms everywhere are pretty small.
I live in South, which I like a lot. But of your options, I will put in a vote for West!
