Housing for transfer students?

I’m thinking about transferring to Pitt but I don’t like that transfer students aren’t guaranteed housing. I don’t want to live off-campus when I don’t know anyone. Does anyone know of a transfer student to Pitt who DID get university housing? or - a recommendation on where to live if I do transfer? Thanks!

You can contact Panther Central and see if you can be placed on the waiting list for on campus housing.

@mommdc I had a question about winter break with on campus housing. Do you have to completely move out all of your belongings over winter break or can you leave them there while you are away?

The residence halls just close, but things you don’t need during break you can leave there.

So no you don’t have to move everything out unless you are not living there spring semester (study abroad, graduate in December or are withdrawing).

In those cases you will have to let them know ahead of time because the housing contract covers both semesters.

What year are you in? I think many upperclassmen live off campus.

My son transferred to Pitt as a second semester freshmen and was able to get housing in Tower B. He was also able to get housing for sophomore year (from waitlist) but could not live in a dorm room with any of his friends because his non guaranteed status would ruin selection for any guaranteed students.

I would put your deposit in to get placed high up on waitlist. Panther Central can probably give you information on your chances for getting university housing. The earlier they receive your deposit, the better your chances. Also, many students sublet their rooms for a semester and you can probably end up with a place close to campus that is already furnished.

Good luck!
