Transfer student looking for housing

Greetings. My son, who will be a sophomore is transferring to Pitt this august. Looking for housing advice. I understand that most upperclass students live off campus. where should he be looking? Do students live in areas such as Shadyside, and then drive in to class? Is it better to be closer to campus? Are the closer areas more sketchy? Thanks so much!

Pitt grad many years ago but I and many other sophomores lived in the dorms. Very convenient and great way to get acclimated. I’m assuming it’s still possible.

Off campus would be South Oakland or North Oakland with North being nicer and quieter. More grad students in North Oakland.

Having a car on-campus was not a good idea or necessary. Very limited parking and cars were targets. Public transportation through Oakland was very good.

Shadyside or Squirrel Hill are options but not convenient.

It’s going to be tough to find housing this late. Start now.

Here is a Facebook group that may help:

Oops, Sorry it didn’t post right. The group is called PittSubleasesRoommates.

There are a lot of posts from people with extra rooms to fill.

There is another Facebook group called “University of Pittsburgh PITT & CMU Housing Subleases Roommates Apartments” with 18,000 members. You could post for what you are looking for, a lot are graduate students.
