Housing/Lottery System for Upperclassmen

I'll be a sophomore at Washu next year, and am wondering about the housing registration program, which apparently is not quite the same as it was for incoming freshman. I've read the ResLife website's description of the "three rounds" and everything, but there were a couple things I didn't understand - if anyone on here does, I'd appreciate the enlightenment :)

A) Do students participate in all three rounds automatically? Or if you happen to get your first choice of the "first round" options, are you "out" for the next two rounds, even if something better works out in rounds 2 or 3?

B) Would a rising sophomore have any chance at off-campus housing (like the Loop Lofts) and, if I try for that, am I somehow disqualifying myself for sticking with my residential college (as in the Residential College Lottery/Process) if my off-campus bid doesn't happen to come through?

Thanks!

roll tape....
...and....
ACTION!!!

(bump)

It's been a while since I've been through the process... but from what I can remember...

You only participate in the rounds that you submit an application for. When I was there, one round was mostly suites of 4, another was those with 6, so we only applied for the appropriate round. You can apply in one round, and if you don't get anything, try in another round, from what I remember. If you do get something though, I don't think you can opt out and try again in the next round. I wasn't in a special residential college, so I'm not sure how the system works to stay in those for the next year.

As far as off campus housing... You probably won't get it sophomore year :) Anything you apply for through the lottery process will keep you in the system for next year. If it's through the WU off campus apartments office, and not through ResLife, then you won't be included in the lottery system for next year. Hope that hoped at least a little... :)
