Housing & Meal Plan Questions

So, on the housing website it says in order for us to receive our housing assignments we must:

"Complete the online application.
Submit your $50 application fee.
Submit your $200 pre-payment (which is credited to your semester charges).
Once these three steps are complete, you'll have your place "in line" for receiving your top preferences.
Submit your Student Health Services immunization information.
Apply for a meal plan (required for freshmen). More information is available at USF Dining Services.
Once these steps are complete, you'll be eligible to receive a housing assignment."

I've already done everything except apply for the meal plan, and USF's Dining website says the Fall 2012-Spring 2013 meal plan contracts aren't available yet. Does this mean we won't receive our housing assignments until they are. Furthermore, does anyone know exactly what day the meal plan contracts will be available. Thanks in advance for any responses!!!

the meal plan and housing are two separate things… that’s what I was told. so one shouldn’t affect the other.

I was told that housing assignments begin May 1st and continue over May/June. Meal plans should be out before the end of this month, but if they’re not… Housing will still assign you to a dorm, but that assignment is contingent upon signing up for a meal plan once they are available.

Yep, that’s right. I talked to the person in charge and they told me the meal plan won’t affect the housing, just make sure that aren’t any holds on your account that would prevent you from getting the assignment. They just check afterwards before term starts that you also got a meal plan as well. And make sure you choose the right meal plan, there are some that won’t work.
